Supporting information and documents

Once you've decided what you'd like to study at UCOL, you may need to prepare some supporting information for your application.

Application Information

In addition to your contact details and personal information, you may be asked to provide the below particulars during the application process.

National Student Number (NSN)

All applicants will need a NSN to complete an application. If you don't have a NSN, you may request one from NZQA.

Secondary School Education

You'll need to name the last secondary school/high school you attended, the dates and the highest level of achievement you hold.

Recent Activity

You'll need to advise us "your main activity or occupation in New Zealand on the 1st October prior to the date of your programme starting". Essentially, we need to know what you've been doing in the months leading up to now, such as studying or working.

Disability Details

UCOL provides a range of support services to help people with disabilities or issues that affect learning. To access this support, simply declare that you have a disability on your application.

Supporting Documents

When applying online, you'll need to supply any applicable supporting documentation separately - in person, via email or post. Note that the documents required depend on the programme of study. Check the entry requirements to be sure.

A Verified Copy of Your Identification

You can supply a verified copy of your birth certificate, passport or Whakapapa statement. See details below on how to verify your documents.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

If you have completed applicable study elsewhere or have work experience that you'd like to be taken into account as recognition of prior learning, fill out the Recognition of Prior Learning form in the list of available forms on this page, to apply for cross credits, credit transfer and assessment of prior learning. Note that this may incur a fee.

Other Documents

See the right-hand side of this page for additional documents you may require to complete your application.

Verified Documents

When applying or enrolling at UCOL, you'll need to supply verified documents. These are copies of original documents that have been certified as true copies of the original. If the original is not in English, a certified translation must be provided.

How to verify your documents

  • Take the original documents and the copies to a person who can verify them

  • The verifier will identify their official designation on every page of your copies (preferably with an official stamp), sign and date them, and write the following words (or similar), "This is a true copy of an original document that I have sighted."

Who can verify a document?

You can bring your original documents to any of our on-campus Information Centres and we can photocopy and verify them for you. If you can't come into one of our Information Centres, you can ask any of the following to verify documents for you:

  • the institution that originally issued it

  • a solicitor or barrister of the High Court

  • a notary public

  • a Justice of the Peace

  • a Court Registrar

  • a Public Trust Officer

  • Kaumatua (for whakapapa statement only). An officially verified copy of a whakapapa statement is acceptable only when a student cannot obtain a birth certificate. Both the student and a Kaumatua must sign the whakapapa as evidence of identity and citizen

Where to send documents

You can drop your documents off to us at any of our Information Centres, or you can send your verified documents to us via post or courier.
