U-Skills STAR Science Magic Taster

This taster is designed to introduce students to the magical world of science.

You will get a hands-on science experience to fire your enthusiasm for science while learning some science concepts and skills.

This in-person event is your chance to test the thrilling realm of the hands-on experience of applied science and ignite your curiosity and passion.

If you're interested in applying for this course, talk to your career advisor at school. Application is arranged in partnership with your parents/caregivers and your school.

Delivered from 9am - 3pm.

For year 11 - 13 secondary school learners (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or learners with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school). Applications are to be received from participating schools.

Successful completion of the UCOL STAR Science Magic Taster Programme is the first step in a journey towards a career in science.

Once qualified in a NZ Diploma in Science or Bachelor in Applied Science (Lab Science), you have the opportunity to work as a technician with some of New Zealand's leading scientists in a wide range of scientific disciplines.

Roles include: Food science technician, Industrial laboratory technician, Research technician and Quality assurance technician.

The UCOL STAR Science Magic Taster course is part of a suite of courses offered by UCOL to secondary learners seeking to explore their career options while still in school.

Costs

Fees-free for learners. Upon successful application, your school will pay UCOL a fee.

There are no additional costs. Simply bring pen, paper and your lunch, along with closed shoes and tie your hair back if below your ears.
