Overview

This STAR course is designed to expose students to the health and wellbeing sector so they can make a more informed decision for career pathways and further study options within the heath sector. Credits achieved will also contribute to student NCEA qualifications at school.

How to apply
If you're interested in applying for the UCOL STAR Health & Wellbeing Foundation course, talk to your careers advisor at school. Application is arranged in partnership with your parents/caregivers and your school.

Course Hours

Delivered on Thursdays from 9am – 3pm.

Total 80 hours:

  • 50 Lecturer supported hours

  • 30 Independent learning hours

  • (One day per week over 10 weeks)

Course Information

Unit Standard 28518-V3 (Level 2) (5 Credits)


Interact with people to provide support in a health or wellbeing setting. Unit Standard 20826-V6 (Level 2) (3 Credits)

Demonstrate knowledge of infection control requirements in a health or wellbeing setting.


Domestic Entry Requirements

Students must be self-motivated and ready to learn.

Career Pathway

Advice And Guidance

Learners will need to bring pen and paper to take notes and are required to dress appropriately for the health industry i.e. no hoodies, sandals, dirty footwear, slippers, ripped or stained clothing. Learners are expected to dress and behave to the industry standard.
