Overview

New Zealand needs skilled workers to maintain vital resources we all use - wastewater, stormwater, electricity and road networks. This programme is designed to give you core skills and knowledge for the industry.

Over the course of a year you will complete units towards a nationally recognised qualification and gain hands-on skills that employers value. Your practical skills will enable you to safely work on infrastructure works sites ranging from civil works, rural construction, surfacing operations and underground utilities.

Course Hours

Delivered on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9am - 3pm in all locations.

Course Information

This programme comprises 41 credits.

Unit Standard 9677 (Level 2) (3 Credits)

Participate in a team or group which has an objective.

Unit Standard 12349 (Level 2) (3 Credits)

Demonstrate knowledge of time management.

Unit Standard 17327 (Level 2) (3 Credits)

Apply communication skills on an infrastructure works site.

Unit Standard 6475 (Level 2) (2 Credits)

Describe and complete work records for infrastructure works.

Unit Standard 26720 (Level 2) (3 Credits)

Describe health, safety and environment care at an infrastructure works site.

Unit Standard 20868 (Level 2) (4 Credits)

Demonstrate knowledge of emergency response in the civil infrastructure industry.

Unit Standard 23285 (Level 2) (2 Credits)

Use and care for hand tools used for infrastructure works (practical required).

Unit Standard 6469 (Level 2) (2 Credits)

Maintain small machinery used on infrastructure works sites (practical required).

Unit Standard 32138 (Level 2) (Credits 5)

Demonstrate knowledge of good work habits and safe working practices on an infrastructure worksite.

Unit Standard 6472 (Level 2) (Credits 2)

Carry out manual excavation on an infrastructure worksite.

Unit Standard 6477 (Level 2) (Credits 3)

Demonstrate knowledge of aggregates and mixes used on an infrastructure worksite.

Unit Standard 32139 (Level 2) (Credits 5)

Operate and care for small machinery used on an infrastructure worksite.

Unit Standard 17593 (Level 2) (Credits 4)

Apply safe work practices in the workplace.

Domestic Entry Requirements

For year 12 - 13 secondary school learners (NZ Citizens, permanent residents or learners with an applicable visa allowing them to be enrolled in a secondary school), aged 16 years or over.

Applications are to be received from participating schools.

Recommended school subjects include:

  • Maths

  • Technology

  • English

*Please note, all participants are required to pass a drug screening test to follow the Health & Safety requirements of our industry partners and worksites.
